The Goldenrods

I've been reading probably too much about Detroit lately, but, in the course of some of that reading, I came across this photo, to which I can only say (and this comment has nothing, nothing, nothing to do with the photo series itself): Farewell, los Goldenrods. El mundo hardly knew ye.

In any case, check out the photo essay: the Urban Prairie.

For some reason I can't view the picture, but I am a former child from Detroit who lived in a house on the urban prairie before it was a prairie. So I have to use my imagination and I imagine a beautiful field of flowers. Thanks for the memories.

Well, the photo is there again. Not sure for how long, but there it is. (And, again, check out the linked photo essay. It should be seen).

That photo essay is breath-taking. It reminds me a lot of the community gardens we have in Richmond. The green-against-pavement beauty and friendship of the young and radical, the weathered ex-cons, ex-drug-whatevers, ex-badasses, illegal aliens, earth-mothers, the granola-folk, [insert other labels here].
